Hand Tied Bouquet Instructions

    Needed:
  • 12- 24 flowers (depending upon the size of the heads)
  • Floral Tape
  • Sharp Clippers
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and glue
  • 1 Yard of Ribbon
  • Corsage or Hat Pin

Choose flowers that are similar in shape (all compact all angular, etc.). It is pleasing to the eye if they are either all the same type of flower, the same color or varying shades in the same color family. Here we chose 12 Ranunculus in a Fuchsia Pink.
Arrange the flowers by bunching them in your hand, turning the bouquet as you add each stem. Make your goal a rounded bouquet, domed on the top and even on all sides.
You may also want to slightly twist the stems to help angle the flowers.
Determine where your ribbon covered handle will be and tautly wrap the stems together with floral tape.
Measure the length of your bouquet handle by allowing two hands widths from just below the base of the flowers.
Cut the base of the stems evenly with sharp wire cutters or clippers.
Choose a ribbon that complements the color of the flowers or blends in nicely with the stems. Here we chose a 1" Emerald Green Satin with wired edges. Measure out a length of ribbon for the handle (approximately 1 yard), fold the ribbon in half to find the center, then place a small dab of hot glue to help secure the ribbon to the stem.
Beginning about two to three inches from the bottom of the stems, begin to wrap the handle.
Cross the ribbon as it passes over the top and again on the bottom. Wrap the stems of the flowers, creating a ribbon covered handle that allows the ends of the stems to peek out.
When the ribbon "tails" reach the top of the bouquet (at the base of the flowers), the two should meet in the "front" of the bouquet to and be tied into a knot.
Trim the ends of the ribbon with sharp scissors, either at an angle or forked. To make "Forked" tails on the ends of the "tails". Place one on top of the other.
Fold the ribbon in half vertically.
Hold the ribbon in your left hand and the scissors in your right. Cut from the outer right-hand corner of the ribbon at a 45 degree angle, to form a fork when the ribbons are taken apart.
Ribbon with "Forked" tails.
To secure the ribbon, and add one last decorative touch, push a decorative pin into the center of the ribbon's knot, just under the base of the flowers.
If further decoration is desired, try tying a simple shoestring bow under the base of the flowers, making sure to cut the tails at an angle or a "fork".
