English Garden Style Hand Tied Bouquet Instructions

    Needed:
  • Choose five types of flowers whose shapes and composition are similar or that just slightly differ. Choosing flowers in a similar color family will also make a pleasing design. Here we chose pansies, hydrangeas, full-blown garden roses, sweetheart roses, and ranunculus in varying hues from periwinkle and lilac blue to blush pink, mauve, and fuchsia pink. Depending upon the size of the flowers head, choose 3-5 stems of flowers and tape the stems together with floral tape (link to how to floral tape), allowing the heads to remain evenly on the same plain.
  • Floral Tape
  • Wirecutters
  • 4 Yards of Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Corsage or Hat Pin

Depending upon the size of the flowers head, choose 3-5 stems of flowers and tape the stems together with floral tape, allowing the heads to remain evenly on the same plain.
Floral tape the remaining individual bouquets together with floral tape. Now you are ready to assemble the bouquet.
Group individual bouquets of similar colors and hues, for a pleasing plush rounded appearance. Here we grouped the pansies and hydrangea.
Tape the first and second individual groups of flowers together with floral tape.
Continue to floral tape the third bunch of flowers to the bouquet.
Here we have taped the third bunch of ranunculus to the bouquet of pansies and hydrangea.
Floral tape the fourth group of flowers to the bunch.
Here we have floral taped the sweetheart roses to the bouquet of pansies, hydrangea, and ranunculus.
Floral tape the last group of flowers to the bunch.
Here we have floral taped the full-blown roses to the bouquet of pansies, hydrangea, ranunculus, and sweet heart roses.
Floral tape the entire bouquet, one more time for added strength. Leave a few inches of stem bare.
Trim ends of bare stems, evenly with sharp clippers.
Make a ribbon covered with handle, with French Twists, for the bouquet. Start by measuring about 4 yards of ribbon, then folding it in half to find the center point. Here we chose a 1-½ inch satin ribbon in the iridescent lavender.
Place the center point on the back of the bouquet handle, at the end of the bouquet leaving a few inches of stems peeking out of the bottom. Next, cross the ribbon in front.
Then cross the ribbon again in the back.
Bring the ribbon up around the front again. When the ribbons meet, make a clockwise twist before wrapping the ribbon around the back.
Cross the ribbons in the back and bring them up to the front again.
Continue to do a French twist in the front of the bouquet handle, keeping the twists close together and even.
When you reach the top of the bouquet handle, tie the ribbons together in a knot just at the underside of the flowers. A small bow may also be tied over the finishing knot, at this point (but make sure that it does not cover the French Twists).
Push a long pin into the knot. A corsage or hatpin works well. Pins may also be put up and down the handle at the twist points to add more décor. Here we chose a pearl-headed corsage pin.
Trim the ends of the ribbon at an angle, using sharp fabric scissors.
